The Cat's Paw Glacier was named by Scott, who discovered it on December 18, 1903 as he passed below on the Taylor Glacier. Taking a day off on the return from the Western Expedition, he and two colleagues hiked down the Lower Taylor Glacier, passing beyond Lake Bonney and discovering the Dry Valleys.
