Eveline Topfmeier, a German ex-pat, has been tending the bar at Eagle Plains Lodge for several years. About 12 miles below the Arctic Circle, this is the only stop on the Dempster Highway, about halfway, 240 miles (360 km) from Inuvik, with gas, tire repair, motel rooms, restaurant, and the bar. In a beautiful location.
